    2. A suggestion when applying Steri strips is instead of applying it to the edge of a laceration, start in the middle first. that way it will help close the wound more tightly, and you have less chance of having to re-apply the “edge” strip seeing as it can become loose quite easily if not applied tightly enough.

    3. I would personally not put a strip at each end first. I would start at one end aligning the edges of the wound working towards the other side as if the wound was actually being sutured. I would also not be using cheap vinyl gloves either.

    4. Yes, you can infact use an alchol wipe to clean surrounding skin, but it is better to use sodium chloride (saline,) instead. This just ensures that none of the alcohol solution from the wipe will get inside the wound. Alcohol will also dry out the skin.

    However, we both have different preferences on which too use, so if thats what your trained to use and/ or comfortable using, by all means use it. :)

    5. I mean use iodine-solution (betadine) which doesn’t sting.Alcohol is indeed not to be used inside a wound, but for the surrounding skin.

    6. First, you always clean the wound first. When you put steri strips or butterfly closures on a laceration of this magnitude, you place them closer togehter & you pull the stirps towards opposite ends. (If one strip is being pulled down, the other one gets pulled up, etc.) If you pull the steri strips or butterfly closures all the same way, it can actually prevent the wound from healing properly.

    7. Umm… You should never clean a wound with an alcohol wipe because rubbing alcohol can kill the skin tissue, (epidermis-dermis.) Furthermore, Iodine will sting the patient, & finally water is not a recommended source of cleaning. Use sterile saline if available & use soap ans water or water as a last resort to clean a wound.

    8. er… It’s not like it’s a tear in a piece of fabric. Having a strip at each end would keep fabric from tearing more. Skin doesn’t tear like fabric.

    I would think that after washing the wound, you would put one strip in the middle. Then you would put one strip in the middle of what’s left on one side, and the other strip likewise for the other side.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    11. GB – clean it (wound cleansing wipes or water), bandaid or dry dressing, in hospital the medical profession will decide wether it needs ANY intervention. do not be scared to seek advice

    remember – thats what they’re there 4

    12. ALWAYS clean a wound first by washing it with clean water and then clean the surrounding tissue with Povidone-Iodine (Betadine)or a alcohol-wipe.

    Then asses the wound: clean, small and superficial wound: apply a band-aid, a dirty cut: go to your Physician or ER. The ER-doc will decide if he’s going to use steri-strips, stitches or glue to close the wound. He could also decide to keep it open. If the wound is dirty, he will also give a tetanus-shot.
